The Center for Youth in Sustainable Development (CYSD) is committed to transforming lives and communities through the power of education. "The Book Project" is one of our flagship initiatives aimed at promoting literacy and providing underprivileged children in Nigeria with access to quality educational resources.
Project Impact: Since its inception, the Book Project has positively impacted the lives of thousands of children in Nigeria. Over 15,000 children have benefitted from our book donations, and the establishment of the book bank has created a sustainable source of reading materials within local communities. Furthermore, the library under construction will provide a long-term resource for education.
Project Goals:
Increase Literacy: To improve literacy rates among children in Nigeria by providing them with books and fostering a culture of reading.
Enhance Educational Access: To ensure that children, especially those in marginalized communities, have access to essential educational materials.
Empower Communities: To empower local communities through knowledge dissemination and by establishing sustainable educational resources.
Facilitate Learning: To create an environment where children can develop a lifelong love for learning and acquire knowledge beyond the confines of their classrooms.
Project Activities:
Book Donations: CYSD has been actively donating books to over 20 schools and communities in Nigeria since 2019. These donations include a wide range of educational materials suitable for different age groups and learning levels.
Book Bank: We have established a community-based book bank where children can visit and borrow books for free. This initiative promotes independent learning and encourages children to explore various subjects and genres.
Support for Free School: CYSD provides free books to support the education of children attending a free school in the Makoko community. This support ensures that these students have the necessary resources for a quality education.
Library Construction: We are in the process of constructing a library in the Makoko community. This library will serve as a central hub for educational resources, further promoting literacy and providing a dedicated space for learning.
Partnership with Book Cycle UK: CYSD collaborates with Book Cycle UK to enhance the impact of the Book Project. This partnership brings in additional resources, expertise, and a global perspective to our initiative.
